Unlike a crown, which involves more extensive shaving of a tooth (and which is appropriate in some situations) a properly done veneer only requires the removal of the outermost layer of enamel (0.3 - 0.5 mm to be specific) and so is a relatively conservative treatment option. Before the technical elements come into play, however, your new smile must be envisioned and designed by a doctor with an artistic eye and a deep understanding of natural beauty.
Dr. Finkel has developed a personal approach to this design stage that you will not find anywhere else. His background in art, combined with respect for the biology involved and the functional requirements of our teeth, allows him to create beautiful, natural looking smiles that are in harmony with the overall face. Crowns are made for teeth that have been so compromised by decay that a simple filling would not suffice. A crown gives a broken-down tooth 360 degree protection, and restores its natural bite, look, and feel. Today, these restorations are made metal-free in 100% porcelain, eliminating the black line at the gums you may have noticed in older crowns.
When deep decay (or trauma) has caused the nerve at the core of your tooth to be irritated, the only way to resolve the toothache is a root canal. We replace the inflamed nerve with a sterile material, and usually follow up with a crown for the tooth's protection.
Our in-house endodontist, Dr. Stephanie Tran, has the specialized training and experience necessary to handle even the most complicated root canals quickly, precisely and painlessly.
When you're missing a tooth, or have a tooth that is so damaged it needs to be extracted, a dental implant is the most advanced method available to replace it. An implant is a titanium post that mimics your tooth’s root, upon which we build a crown. Implant crowns not only look and feel like the real thing, they are actually stronger than natural teeth could ever be. Our in-house board-certified oral surgeon, Dr. Levon Nikoyan, is highly specialized in both implant surgery itself, and the surgeries required to develop the gums and bone where the future implant or implants will be. Sometimes, someone’s teeth are so damaged that the only solution is to rebuild the entire mouth. Our doctors have extensive training in full mouth reconstruction, on both the surgical and cosmetic sides. After careful planning, we first eliminate all infections and decay, then give our patients back esthetics and function through a combination of implants, crowns, veneers, or whichever other techniques the situation requires.

Regular teeth cleanings and exams can prevent serious dental issues from developing. A thorough dental cleaning involves the removal of plaque and other bacteria from the tooth surface in order to prevent cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. When plaque is left on the teeth, it builds up and hardens into calculus, which can cause bleeding gums, loose teeth, and ultimately even tooth loss. There is also a well-established link between dental plaque and both heart disease and dementia, yet another reason for frequent dental cleanings.
Oral cancer is on the rise, with more than 30,000 new cases diagnosed in the U.S. each year and more than 8,000 deaths annually. The five-year survival rate for most oral cancers is roughly 50%. The good news, however, is that oral cancer is largely curable when detected early on.
We perform a thorough oral cancer screening as part of every exam, and are proud to use the VELscope system. The VELscope is the only device cleared by the FDA to help detect oral mucosal lesions that are invisible to the naked eye. It's quick, painless, and may save your life.
There are 700+ unique bacterial species — both good and bad — that have been identified as part of the oral microbiome, and each of us have these in different proportions. Aside from determining a person’s susceptibility to oral conditions like cavities, gum disease, and bad breath, it is well known that the oral microbiome impacts overall health. There is now concrete evidence linking specific mouth bacteria to certain diseases including: diabetes/insulin resistance, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease, colorectal cancer, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Salivary testing enables personal treatment recommendations to combat each patient’s bad bacteria and nurture their good bacteria. The saliva sample takes less than a minute to collect, and can be done at the start of your next cleaning appointment.
Our in-office Zoom teeth whitening system allows patients to achieve dramatic whitening results with a minimal time investment. Zoom is one of the best known and most effective professional whitening systems on the market. You can expect to leave our office with significantly whiter teeth after a single appointment that lasts an hour and a half. The procedure is completely non-invasive and can eliminate or substantially lighten even the most persistent stains and discoloration. With an appropriate oral hygiene regimen and regular cleanings, teeth whitening can last for years. For future periodic touch-ups at home, we can provide you with custom take-home bleach trays as well.
Before performing tooth whitening, we must make sure you don’t have signs of active gum disease, untreated tooth decay, or dental restorations that are leaking or crumbling. Broken fillings and untreated dental disease allow the teeth whitening gel to penetrate your teeth more deeply than is desirable, potentially causing sensitivity and tooth pain. Also please note that existing dental restorations like crowns, bridges, veneers, and composite bonding will not change color during teeth whitening, a fact that should be considered beforehand. Whitening is also not suitable for pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding.
After first protecting your lips and gums, we carefully coat your teeth with the whitening gel. The gel is activated with the Zoom laser and we begin the first fifteen minute session. We will remove and reapply the gel several times during your treatment, aiming for 3-4 rounds. Once complete, your teeth will be several shades whiter.
Afterwards, it will take the new shade of your teeth forty eight hours to settle. During this time window, your teeth are more vulnerable to staining, and so it’s recommended to avoid very strongly colored foods and beverages (think red wine, tomato sauce, black coffee.) Your teeth may likely even continue to lighten in this two day period. After this, moving into the future, we recommend at-home bleach trays for periodic maintenance.
Misaligned teeth are not just unesthetic; it's been shown that crowded teeth invite a more aggressive type of bacteria into those unnaturally tight spaces. Using a series of clear plastic trays, we can correct a crooked smile in a matter of months.
The majority of patients today don’t have space in their jaws for third molars (“wisdom teeth”) to come in perfectly straight. When we determine that the position of a wisdom tooth is problematic and may cause damage to the neighboring teeth, we take a 3D CT scan to visualize the area, and then our board-certified oral surgeon will remove the tooth as atraumatically as possible.
For those patients who are particularly anxious or fearful about their dental care, we are proud to offer different levels of sedation to make the experience less stressful. This ranges from nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) to mild sedatives, all the way up to general anesthesia, during which our anesthesiologist puts you to sleep during the procedure. We’ll be happy to answer any of your questions and help you determine if sedation dentistry is right for you.
We are a fee-for-service provider, which means that payment is due at the time of each service and collected at the end of every appointment. We do not participate with any dental/medical insurance plans and are considered an out-of-network provider. However, you may still be eligible for out-of-network benefits from your insurance carrier based on your plan.
